It had taken them a while to really get to know each other, beyond his meaningless flirting (that somehow had gained too much meaning, somewhere down the line) and her frosty demeanor. It wasn’t a personality clash, per se; Elsa was clearly used to being around someone with boundless energy, if her sister was any indication, and Wally was used to Kaldur and Connor playing the stoic. It was a matter of getting past those carefully constructed exteriors that became the problem.

Wally came off as shallow, silly, and sometimes outright dumb - he knew that pretty well, especially after that whole stint with Artemis. Elsa appeared cold and even uncaring in some situations, unless her sister was involved. If they hadn’t been needed for so long, they each probably would have left with those impressions intact. But he and the team had to stick around for a while. Although Artemis and Kaldur had thought that while Wally would get along well with someone like Anna, with his neverending supply of energy and humor, if they wanted to stay on track, they’d believed that their best bet was to keep him close to Elsa. And having him near the queen would make for a quick escape, if it came down to it (which had actually been necessary, once or twice). The entire reason they’d been sent on this mission was because her powers had made her a target, both for those who wanted to use her, and who wanted to dispose of her and the danger she supposedly represented. They were to protect her, and to try to help her learn to control her powers better until the threat was gone, but unfortunately, the Light didn’t seem to be going anywhere, even years after their initial discovery.

Wally, though? He’d met the girl, and she wasn’t so bad. She was pretty low-key, for sure, but she wasn’t scary. The only possible threat about her was the relatively minor control she had over her abilities, and they were all helping her out with that however they could. Elsa herself, though - she was actually kind of nice, and he found himself falling into old flirting habits pretty quickly. It hadn’t gotten him much of a response, but when had that ever deterred him?

What had really startled him was when she did start to respond. It had become something playful by that point, with him assured that nothing would happen between them at all, and he was happy just being friends with her, really. It was like Elsa had waited for the right moment to strike, and then one flippant, innocuous little comment had left his entire face burning as red as his hair, and Rob would never let him live it down. Then everything just kind of snowballed from there, the flirting gradually becoming a little less casual, a little more real, until where they were now. The two of them were alone in a field of wildflowers, AKA probably the number one cheesiest date he’s ever taken a girl out on… but one he knew she would enjoy from past conversations. It was just outside of Central City, far enough from everything that they won’t be found, but close enough that they could easily get where they needed to go if something happened. Barry had shown him this place, a quiet little cathedral that no one seemed to pay attention to anymore - a good place to relax, he’d said, and slow down, maybe even get in a nap. Being a speedster wasn’t all roses, and even they needed a break once in a great while. Wally figured that, in the fallout of the mess that was the Duke Weselton sending his cronies after her again, Elsa could use something that break, and waited until the others were settled again to suggest it and whisk her away without them knowing. They’d done this sort of thing before, and though the others had caught them once or twice, and Robin (being Robin) somehow knew every time, it was understood that it was all for the queen’s own safety. And as far as Wally was concerned, mental and emotional safety counted, too. Besides, they’d be back before anyone noticed they’d been gone - probably.

Either way, she needed some time to herself. He’d seen her in the middle of all the action, and it hadn’t been good - the stress must be overwhelming, thought it was hard for him to imagine when he’d never had trouble with his powers like she did. Sure, there was the occasional problem with the brakes not working and slamming into a wall, but that was pretty much it. Elsa had a whole slew of problems with her abilities, and Wally didn’t have the slightest idea of how to actually help with that, beyond bringing her to tranquil places like this to give her some breathing room. So that was what he did whenever she asked, or further on in their odd relationship, whenever he felt that she needed it. Kid Flash was never the strongest member of the team, but he could easily pick her up in his arms and whisk her away, leaving a breeze and a cloud of dust to mark their passing.

Today was one of those days, where he’d acted on impulse and taken her away from everything, automatically bringing her to the one safe place that he could think of, a sanctuary of sorts, with only the vague comment that he wanted to show her something as a clue. While she was exploring the abandoned church with its colored windows and heavy stones, Wally made the rounds outside, making sure there weren’t any threats in the immediate vicinity. Once assured, he headed back, smiling as he removed the cowl, his secret identity long since revealed to her.

“So, what do you think?” Standing there, he realized suddenly that he was actually a little nervous about bringing her here, sharing a place that until now had only belonged to him and Barry. It seemed like her kind of place, but there was always the fact that Elsa was still a queen, and her tastes were far more tailored and sophisticated than his would ever be. Still, the quiet calm of the cathedral and its flowering meadow seemed like the right place to take her, and he hoped it would help, and maybe give her the space to breathe that she didn’t always have in that castle of hers.

Taking her place upon the throne had not been an easy transition for Elsa. After endangering her kingdom, she did her best to reassert her position as a royal while making sure her people could see the queen's true colors - a diplomatic and well-tempered ruler (emotional issues notwithstanding) who wanted to keep the doors of the kingdom open to others after keeping them shut for so long. She is no villain, she means no harms. With Anna by her side, she feels more confident by the hour that they will perhaps one day see her the way she does.

There are always critics. Anna had been more offended on her behalf but Elsa had anticipated the fire and had assembled a close council of advisors to support her through these difficult times. Sure, the thaw had been a wonderful occasion, welcoming the people into the court, but there is still room for improvement, especially for a perfectionist like her. The Duke had been embittered by the entire thing, being made a fool in front of others, and she had anticipated that he and his men would come after her once more. The Team's arrival was of no surprise, though she hadn't anticipated them all to be so young. Of course, Elsa herself is only twenty-one and had taken the crown before marriage - that wasn't necessary. Arendelle had never found royal marriages to be a necessity, which was one blessing she could count on. She had more or less resigned herself to ruling alone and that seems to suit her.

Wally's attentions had been a little confusing. Elsa had interpreted them to be his usual odd friendliness but her sister, the perpetual romantic, had squealed the first second she had alone with her, having experienced his flirtation firsthand. Of course, she had to ask how to approach this, ever so seriously. It's courtship, Elsa, Anna had chided, not a treaty signing. If she liked him, then she should tell him so.

Easier said than done, but she had found a way, more subtle than Anna's usual style, but impactful enough to render the talkative hero speechless. It was something to be proud of, actually.

She's noticed that while he seems to be happy-go-lucky on the outside, there is a very sensitive part of him that is particularly astute when it comes to the emotions of others, especially those close to him. Since it had been agreed upon by all parties that he could be the Queen's companion during this difficult time, they had been spending more time together than she initially anticipated. Whenever Wally picked up on the little changes in her demeanor, particularly when she needed a social break from talking to people constantly, Elsa was immensely grateful. It was helpful and - it was sweet. It helped her open up to him more than she had to anyone other than her sister.

Fleeing to Central City is a temporary situation, but she does like the occasional trip to other countries. Of course, she wishes it is under different circumstances, but she can't complain when they're in such a lovely field with a beautiful old building. Gothic architecture, she tells him as she explores, tracing some of the stones.

"It's beautiful," she breathes, hands folded over her long navy dress. It lacks the typical spangles she wears at home, but she does want to try to lay low as much as possible here.

"Thank you for taking me here."

[personal profile] thewallman 2014-12-16 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
They both know that it's only a temporary fix when Wally picks her up and runs away with her, but really, what else can they do? He (and the rest of the team) are here to help her, and by Wally's book, that means giving her those much-needed breaks that he knows some people just need. Look at Connor - that practically needed half a day just to be able to withstand a five minute conversation. Wally, for his part, was the exact opposite, but this isn't about them. It's about Elsa, and helping her settle into her role as Queen of Arendelle safely.

He never knew much about architecture, so when she talks about it he simply nods in acknowledgement, filing that away for later. She likes Gothic architecture? Maybe he can find another place like this for them to run to next time she needs to get away. It shouldn't be hard, right? Just a quick Google, maybe even glance at a map, and that's it.

"You like it?" he asks with a grin, elated. It's always good to know he's guessed well. "My u- My mentor showed me this place a few years ago, back when I first got my powers," Wally explains. "He'd bring me here to clear my head, you know? Remind me to slow down and smell the flowers sometimes. And there are plenty of them," he says, holding his arms out to gesture to the entire field, and in a flash, he's standing just an arm's length away, holding out a small, fresh bouquet of wildflowers, trimmed just so they wouldn't get dirt all over her dress.

"I never brought anyone else here," Wally muses, looking between Queen Elsa and the quiet cathedral with a fond smile. "But I can bring you back here anytime you want. All you have to do is ask."

Or he can keep his eyes open, just in case another moment like today comes and she needs to escape. Either way.

Elsa can't help but feel just a tiny bit envious. She wishes she had a mentor when she had been fighting to control herself, to mask who she really was. How wonderful it is to see all these others, owning their powers and what makes them different and using it for good.

Blink once and Wally's gone. Blink twice and he's back with a gift. Elsa's blue eyes widen and she gasps, tentatively reaching out to take the bouquet from him, leaning in to smell them, the petals lightly tickling her dainty nose. It makes her giggle softly.

"I'll remember that."

It takes her a moment and it actually looks like she's struggling to say something, her grip on the stems tightening slightly. She squares her shoulders before relaxing her posture for the millionth time, a conscious effort on her part. Finally, she leans in to brush a kiss against his cheek, letting out a breath of a laugh.

There. A silent thanks.

[personal profile] thewallman 2014-12-31 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
A laugh from Queen Elsa is a rare sound, a giggle rarer still. It sends butterflies fluttering through Wally's stomach and lights up his whole face, relieved that she likes the flowers and glad to have given her a break from the stress.

"I figured this would be more your style than an amusement park," he says lightly, a faint blush on his cheeks. "I mean, I could take you somewhere if you wanted, but this place is a lot quieter. And no lines! Besides, if you want something deep-fried, I know just the place to go in Central... I mean, if you're hungry."

He might be rambling a bit. But it's true that he didn't even think about food when he'd brought Elsa here, so it could be a legitimate concern! It usually is for speedsters, at least.

"If you took me to an amusement park, I wouldn't mind." It's a shy admission. Perhaps - and this is certainly an abuse of power that she would never consider under ordinary circumstances - she could ask for an after hours tour of a part one day.

Gently, she reaches for his hand, which, as he must know by now, is a rare thing. While Elsa has become better accustomed to physical contact with others, she doesn't often initiate it herself. "Show me your city, Wally," she requests. "I know that you want me to be comfortable, but - well, I would be very interested to experience it the way you do."

Just not now. Now, they have to take advantage of this place.
thewallman: (big grin)

[personal profile] thewallman 2015-01-07 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really?" He hadn't thought a queen might be into such a commonplace thing, especially one that could crowded and dirty and gross in no time at all. "I guess we could always do that next time."

His smile is bright, excited, when she takes his hand. Having been around her for some time now, Wally knows what that means for Elsa, so it means a lot to him as a result. He's quick to nod his assent, and gives her hand a light squeeze of encouragement.

"What do you want to see? I'm pretty sure you won't like my high school," he jokes, "but besides that. There's this great diner my uncle took me to once, if you're hungry..."

[personal profile] fractalist 2015-01-08 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Later?" she asks softly, lightly pressing her other hand to his arm in some attempt to slow him down. It feels as if they have all the time in the world and she wants to enjoy every moment of it. "We can go to that diner later."

How does one go about initiating a kiss? Elsa wonders. It shouldn't be so difficult, but she still doesn't know how to do the people thing.

"I'm - I'm not hungry right now," she clarifies, looking away from him shyly after another extended glance.

Later. He's almost disappointed, but he takes the gesture for what it is - a reminder that not everything has to happen at full speed. The entire reason they're here is to slow down and breathe, but sometimes, Wally still has to work to remember that.

"Okay. I guess we can chill out here for a while," he says instead, taking her hand and giving it a quick kiss. Got to treat the queen with proper courtesy.

Now that, she hasn't realized she would enjoy as much, or that it would make her blush even more than she is already. It seems like the kind of thing Anna would sigh dreamily about, the romantics of courtship. Elsa didn't need a husband to become queen, but it's never to late, she supposes.

"We can certainly ... chill," Elsa repeats, chuckling softly, not because of the pun but because she's only just getting accustomed to using colloquial language.

"I quite liked that kiss."

It's funny how such a small gesture, something so common in movies with queens and princesses, brings a blush to her face, pale and pretty as she normally is. It's cute, though, and it brings a smile to Wally's face.

"Then maybe I should do it more often," he replies, straightening his back. He's just a few inches taller than her, but it's enough to tell the difference, and now, he's feeling a little more daring. The blush is cute, sure, and the way she said that is inviting enough, so it shouldn't hurt if he just... leaned in to leave a soft kiss her cheek.

She supposes that after a lifetime of wearing gloves, it was bound to happen the moment she decided to go without them. There's something to be said for real, human touch in any context, with all its warmth and affection, and it makes her feel more human, normal.

Flirting. This is flirting. She can do that.

Obviously, she is going to run over every (appropriate) detail by her sister, not giving too much informations, but enough to make sense of all of this. Plus, she will certainly be happy to hear what Elsa has been up to recently.

Taking a chance, she turns her head slightly to catch his lips, merely brushing them instead of giving a real kiss. Well, that's a start.

His cheeks turn a light pink that he whole-heartedly ignores, unused to anything quite like this. Such a soft touch is... well, exciting, and only to be expected from someone like her, he thinks. Elsa is hardly known for her boldness, and he's and the others, first through talking to Anna and then from experience, have seen just how shy the Queen of Arendelle can be.

She's different than the girls Wally is used to in every way. All of the ladies on their team are varying degrees of bold and confident, not a trace of timidity among them. M'gann might be the shyest, but even she is pretty straight-forward most of the time. It's this that makes Elsa so intriguing, so special, and that's why he doesn't have so much trouble forcing himself to slow down, for her sake, and take their time with... whatever this is.

But of course, it leaves him wanting, and Wally West is often a creature of impulse. So it's natural for him to tip his head, pressing closer for a soft, but full, kiss, absentmindedly twining his fingers together with hers.

How nice it is to be kissed. She isn't much of a romantic, but even she can admit that this is quite nice. It's not a drastic change of pace and it doesn't come as a surprise, his eagerness to return her attempt at a kiss.

It makes her giggle again, this time softer, and she allows him to lace their fingers together. Instinct still has her wanting to pull away and close off, but her quiet yearnings somehow overpower all of that, at least in this instance.
thewallman: (oh c'mon)

[personal profile] thewallman 2015-01-16 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
He's noticed over time that with a lot of things, Elsa needs a little push to do something a little bolder than usual. Wally doesn't mind, of course; it's a new kind of challenge, a delicate one that he approaches as carefully as his own impulses will allow. It's easy enough to transition from her actions to a real kiss, to take her hand, but he knows full well how such close contact affects Elsa. It scares her, understandably so after all she's been through, but it's precisely because of that that he can appreciate her not pulling away as much as he does.

That quiet laugh has him grinning against her lips, and he pulls back just enough to smile at her for a moment. He did think she needed some time away to relax, so it's good to see her actually doing it instead of dwelling on the problem for once. That never works out well - Wally knows from experience. It isn't long before he leans in again, forcing himself not to push boundaries just when she's opening up to him. But he likes this a lot, whatever it really is. Flirting with her, being flirted with, is fun.

She deposits the lovely bouquet on a low wall because she's ready to reach out and, not taking his other hand, touch his cheek. Her fingertips are still cold, enough to feel different but not enough to startle.

They both seem to be doing a good job of reigning in their respective powers and urges, but she feels she can push herself even further and prompt him to be more of himself around her. Smiling back at Wally, she pulls him in once more to resume their kissing. While her hands are cold, her lips are surprisingly warm.
thewallman: (the ultimate boredom)

[personal profile] thewallman 2015-01-20 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Her touch, cool as it is, is actually refreshing for Wally, very different from the number of ice-equipped supervillains he and his uncle have gone up against. Those guys just make him cold, and it slows him down in the most frustrating way he's ever felt, even with school back in session. But Elsa? She's certainly cold, but it's like the crisp cold that comes with a breath of fresh air in late autumn, reminding him that not all things need to be fast to be enjoyable.

With his other hand free, he takes the chance to rest it gently on Elsa's hip, taking her invitation for what it is but at the same time, not wanting to scare her away. He decided a long time ago, once they first started opening up to one another, that he wouldn't rush into things with her like he usually does. Her lips feel soft, and Wally already knows he wants more, but whatever happens, they'll go at her pace. He's supposed to be her bodyguard of sorts; his job is to make sure that Queen Elsa is safe and comfortable, but he doesn't see why he can't go the extra mile. So after just a moment's hesitation, Wally parts his lips against hers, carefully brushing his tongue over them.

Just wait until she gets him speed skating. She's sure he won't be complaining about ice there.

The hand on her him makes her tense up slightly, the temperature around them momentarily dropping until she finds calm once more. A part of her does want to joke about going above and beyond the duties of bodyguard, but she's far too occupied kissing. Really kissing. Her mouth opens slightly at his prompting.

The hand wrapped around his moves up his arm so she can rest it against his chest, her fingers lightly curling into his shirt.

[personal profile] thewallman 2015-01-23 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's impossible not to feel that change or Elsa's hesitation, and with it, he freezes, pulling his hand back just enough to give her the extra space she needs. The last thing Wally wants to do is push her into something she isn't comfortable with. With that in mind, he'll back off for now and just enjoy kissing her, mildly relieved that she's parted her lips for him. He'll gladly take advantage of that small gesture to see just how far he can push the boundaries before she gets too uncomfortable.
fractalist: ºspxre (fuss.)

Her fingers curl into his shirt a little tighter, meant to be encouraging because she wants him to know that she does want this, whatever this is, as long as it's with him. It's the first time she has felt close to anyone outside of her family, someone she can put her trust in to support her or protect her if need be.

"You don't need to move your hand," she murmurs against his lips, just before she tips her head back to smile at him, to turn her wide blue eyes onto him so that he knows how sincere she is right now.

Well, if the lady insists, he'll put his hand back despite his hesitance. The feeling of her holding onto his shirt like this is... surprisingly nice, so when Elsa pulls back, he offers her a smile in return. Softly, he replies, "Sorry... I don't want you to be uncomfortable or anything."

"Actually, I - well, I'm the complete opposite of that right now."

Elsa has to laugh again because how long has she waited to say that to someone? Each day, she revels in her newfound friendships, relationships. It feels so good to be able to touch someone and, for once, not fear for his life. It inspires her to touch more, to be closer; even if she is tentative in her movements, she just wants him to know that she is, indeed, happy.
thewallman: (huh?)

[personal profile] thewallman 2015-01-30 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really?" For all the self-confidence he likes to project, Wally has never been the smoothest when it comes to the girls he actually likes. It's why he'd been so surprised when Elsa had actually responded to his flirting, aside from her general iciness - he liked her, but he'd never expected her to actually respond in kind, sincerely or not.

But what is Elsa, if not sincere? It puts a dumb smile on his face, and he presses closer, pushing his luck a little further to kiss her again, tongue and all, to pick right back up where they left off.

"Mhm," she hums against his lips.

Things have grown heated and she can feel her chest and neck warm while around them, thin ice begins to spread over the bricks and stones. It's a funny contradiction, she would have to admit later on; but for now, she pulls back slightly, having anticipated it, but unsure how it might effect their little meeting. Not entirely pulling her hands away from him, they hover over his chest and she curls her fingers into loose fists.
thewallman: (oh c'mon)

[personal profile] thewallman 2015-02-02 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He starts to smile again, relieved and more than happy to keep this going as long as Elsa will allow. He'll stop if she asks, of course, but until then, he'll take what she gives him. He pauses, however, when she starts to pull her hands away, confused until he sees the spread of ice on the ground around them.

He should have known.

"Hey, don't worry about it," Wally tells her, taking her hands in his own and trying to catch her eyes. "It's okay. A little frost won't hurt."
