Oh, he may pretend he doesn’t like it, but Ahsoka has seen how he acts with Anakin, and it’s not much different. It’s all an act, all for show, and though she doesn’t quite understand why Obi-Wan feels the need to do it, at least she can get a laugh out of it when he’s not looking.
“You say that like you don’t have the energy to take down a dozen clankers in one go. And that’s on a bad day,” she comments, shaking her head with a good-natured roll of her eyes. And even that is nothing compared to when Obi-Wan and Anakin get to sparring. The younglings practically idolize them both! “I think Anakin’s just glad he’s not the one in trouble for once. He wants to enjoy it while it lasts.”
It’s actually quite fun to see how excited her master is over this whole thing. None of them understand what exactly is going on, but Anakin is probably the least interested in figuring that out, just because he finds the situation so hilarious. Though Ahsoka has the feeling he wouldn’t be in such a good mood if he was the one waking up mysteriously younger.
“Even at my worst i would rather face a battalion of droids than a creche full of younglings.” Just keeping up with just one enthusiastic child had been quite the experience compared to weeks of non-stop battles. “And I’m sure Anakin will take great pleasure in reminding me once this is over.”
He would for that record, take a week of babysitting the creche than Anakin reminding him of anything he missed while lightyears away. He feels younger, as odd as the statement is currently. It’s only a matter of time until he acts his physical age - a time he would rather keep tucked away in the past where it belongs. Undoubtedly a slip of that sort would call to Anakin’s attention, neck deep in droid parts or not.
It’s only practice that keeps that sigh internal, resignation swirling within the Force.
“You don’t really mean that.” The younglings are a force to be reckoned with all on their own, with all that extra energy that comes with childhood, but they mean well. And they’re arguably as excited about Obi-Wan’s situation as Anakin. “They love you! And you could teach them more, now that they’re not so intimidated by you.”
Ahsoka laughs. “The way you guys hoard information like this about each other, Skyguy is never going to forget it. Though I think he’d have a lot more fun if he could blame it on something you did wrong.” She gives Obi-Wan a sideways glance, wry amusement sparkling in her eyes. “I swear, if I didn’t know both of you, I’d think you hate each other.”
“Perhaps a class or two in the training salles then.” Is the amendment, yet still the young are much more preferable. “The little ones are much more excited that I look like one of them now.” After all, with everyone else gone another new face who visits constantly means a new playmate to them.
“He takes great pleasure in reminding me Master Kenobi is fallible as any being.” The eyeroll in his tone is palpable, a hint of teenaged exasperation in his otherwise serene appearance. “Only because I consistently remind him that he too has faults.” Honestly, he’s more worried of what trails of destruction Anakin would leave in his wake without the nagging to remind him.
In the meantime however, he eyes Ahsoka sternly. For their relatively short time together, she has already picked up far too many of his behaviors. “Hate is far too strong of a word for words exchanged between friends.” He mock lectures, pulling himself to full height. “We only verbally disagree with each others methods.”
Ahsoka beams at him, pleased as can be for even a small allowance like this. It’s more than she expected to get out of Obi-Wan, with him so intent on avoiding the little ones and getting back to normal as quickly as possible. “I’m sure they’ll love it! It’s not often they get to train with a Master their own size. They might even underestimate you,” she says teasingly, with a little extra bounce in her step. Mental note: be there when he trains with them. It ought to make for a good show.
“And because it’s not him, for once,” she laughs. “I think he’s so used to being the one in situations like this that he wants to enjoy the one time it isn’t. Besides, you’d probably be doing the same if it were his problem. It’s all part of that ‘verbal disagreeing’ you guys do.”
Don’t pretend you wouldn’t, Obi-Wan. Ahsoka has been on plenty of missions with the both of you to know the truth. She raises an eyebrow, as if daring him to say otherwise.
“Speaking of, have they made any progress on figuring out what happened? Last I heard, they’d started digging in the restricted parts of the archives.”
