[ Toothless is completely unaware of the child until it tackles him, making him stumble. Pausing, he looks down and blinks in confusion when he sees the kid hanging onto him, and stares. Aren't most people in Berk used to him and the other dragons by now? ]
[Most people in Berk, sure, but the little silver-haired kid isn't from here. Not even close. So sorry there Toothless, he'll just be hanging onto you for several seconds before he finds the willpower to pull himself away...at least a few feet.]
Wow. You're a real, honest to goodness dragon.
[This is officially the best day in his short life. Kai holds out a hand for him to sniff, as if he suddenly remembered something close to manners.]
I'm Kai, what's your name? Can you talk?
[Most of the dragons in the stories could totally talk.]
[ Upon closer examination, it's clear that this one doesn't belong in Berk. He can't be from another Viking town, or the outlaws, either; he looks nothing like them.
Toothless isn't used to kids, unless you count Hiccup. The rider is a lot older than this one, though, and that makes a difference. And unfortunately, Toothless is not a dragon from Kai's stories, so talking isn't an option. Instead, he tries to tries to smile, without teeth, and hopefully Kai will get his name from that. ]
