No, not Toothless. Toothless is very well aware of where he is at the moment, though he doesn't recognize this new town. It isn't like Berk - much too easy to get lost, and taking to the air isn't an effective way to find the boy. Not here.
Alright, so he'd been told to wait. Of course he hadn't. A new place meant new territory to explore. But it's taking too long for Hiccup to come back, and Toothless is getting bored with slinking along roofs and street corners to see if there is anything new and interesting. There isn't. And obviously, the best solution is to play a game with Hiccup.
If only Toothless could find him.
Much to the dragon's irritation, it isn't working out. So he's given up, and decided to find the best hiding spot instead. Make Hiccup work for him, not the other way around. This is much more fun. There's a garden that Toothless spies from above, with plenty of good places to lie in wait for a clueless rider. He curls up near the central area, tucking himself against the short, snow-covered walls with one eye open, ready to pounce when the time is right. Hiccup won't even see it coming. ]
[ Elsa has never seen a dragon. She knows they exist beyond stories and she certainly hopes her new travels will introduce her to one. Actually, she and Anna got into a very long late night conversation about dragons and whether or not it was safe to ride on one. Of course, Elsa cautioned her against it, until she had training of sorts, which shouldn't be terribly difficult being in their position. She knows that sometimes Anna lacks grace and balance, but it would not do to guard her closely just as her parents guarded Elsa when they were alive,
Until they can find a dragon and a dragon riding instructor, Elsa has a few ideas to lift Anna's spirits. That is why she is outside this morning, dressed in pale blues as always, almost floating over the freshly fallen snow and hardly leaving footprints in her wake. With an impish grin, the Queen extends her arms, willing the snow to lift itself up, and she raises her hands, beginning to form the head of the dragon. ]
[ All of a sudden, his ear perks up. Someone's coming, and it's about time Hiccup comes back, too. Toothless hunkers down in his spot, ready to spring on his rider at any moment.
Except... that isn't Hiccup. In fact, that isn't anyone he knows at all, so he settles back down into the snow in disappointment, keeping a wary eye on her. At first, it looks funny how she waves her arms. Humans and their odd habits. But then the snow moves, taking the shape of a dragon, and Toothless lifts his head, eyes growing larger in fascination. A snow dragon? He's seen a lot of dragons, some that even shoot boiling water, but never one that looks like snow.
Curiosity gets the better of him, and soon enough Toothless is forgetting his plan to catch Hiccup by surprise. Taking slow, cautious steps, he approaches the girl and her strange dragon, staring at it. Is it real? ]
[ And it moves! Not that Elsa would animate it so soon - the princess of Arendelle isn't even awake yet - but the thought is quite tempting. She has grown to be quite proud of her ability to use her powers, often associated with destruction, to create a little life. Olaf is living (?) proof of that and she is glad to have him around. Of course, the royal snowman continues to wait patiently for his friend and Elsa needs to keep busy.
It almost looks like she's dancing, hurrying forward with a short laugh as she makes the creature dip in and out of the piles of snow, as if weaving through clouds. As a little flourish, she makes the tail flick with a flick of her own wrist.
She takes a few steps backwards to admire her handiwork, hands clasped behind her back. ]
[ He's slowly easing his way closer, eyes locked onto the other dragon. He's never seen one burrow that quickly before. What else can it do? Can it freeze things? Is this dragon the reason for all the icicles? Toothless wonders, passing Elsa close by to walk up to it for a closer view. ]
[ She's so caught up in her work she nearly misses him, but then - ]
Oh! [ It's a relatively quiet yelp so as not to alert her own guards. Not yet anyway. Instead of cringing and turning away, she stands her ground, straightening her posture. Her eyes narrow slightly and, without thinking, she takes a step closer to Toothless. ]
[ He doesn't look at her, merely flicking an ear in her direction as he inspects the other dragon. It almost looks like... it's made of snow. Eyes narrowed, Toothless touches his nose to the other's snout, pulling back suddenly with a shake of his head at the cold.
It is snow. He's never seen a dragon of snow, and Toothless is intrigued as he circles, looking it up and down. Can he make a dragon of snow, too? ]
[ He lets out a puff of breath in surprise. Snow never moves by itself, not even with the kids of Berk make shapes out of it. Taking a few steps to the side, Toothless looks between the dragon and Elsa, trying to connect the dots. It only came once she did, and only moves when she moves. Are there strings? ]
Guilty as charged. [ This is funny. She hadn't anticipated dragons to be so curious, though perhaps this one is different. There are so many stories of their ferocity and majesty -- and while Toothless may be both those things, it is still a rather curious discovery for her. ]
How about ... [ She animates the dragon enough to weave through the snow before touching its snout to the other's. ]
[ His eyes instantly go back to the snow dragon before him when Elsa moves, keeping still as he watches. He's not expecting it to touch his snout again, and he ends up shaking his head again, taking a step back before letting out a small, playful growl. ]
[ That's it. Control. Control. She can keep the dragon moving without unleashing the full beast upon everyone. The snow dragon starts circling Toothless instead, mimicking his movements from before. ] She just wants a friend, [ Elsa says softly, though she isn't sure if he can even understand her. ]
[ He remains in place this time, watching the other dragon and occasionally glancing at its handler. There are no strings, or sticks, like he's seen the riders on Berk use when mimicking their dragons. Something different is going on here. Turning, Toothless slowly approaches Elsa with his head tilted curiously, looking for an explanation. ]
[ This is supposed to be a feared creature, but here, Elsa has to laugh quietly, letting her own dragon still before she opens her bare palm. Immediately, the air begins to solidity and oversized snowflakes appear above her hand, dancing over to Toothless to boop him on the nose and melt away. ]
[ "Magic" is not a word in his vocabulary. But as soon as the snow dragon is still and Elsa produces a large snowflake in her hand, she has his full attention. His eyes follow it until it touches his nose and melts, and in an instant he's on his feet again and walking toward her. Snow is something brought by the clouds. He's never met a human that can create it. It's intriguing, to see a human with that power. She's shown him something, so he should, too. It's only fair. He does so by finding a patch of ground and puffing out a small purple flame, melting the snow in a perfect circle. It's not snow, but that is how he creates. ]
[ Elsa presses her hands together, resting her chin against them as she watches him in wonder. She is more than happy to put her powers on display nowadays, now that she has more or less achieved acceptance from her people. ]
I've never seen a purple flame before! [ She gasps, tentatively approaching the display from her new friend. ]
[ He sits back, eyes bright with fascination. It isn't often that he uses his plasma blasts for something like this, or... at all, really, outside of battle. And most people that have seen it are afraid, not curious. It will burn if she dares to touch it, but for now the little flame dances on the ground, already starting to fade away. ]
[ Elsa knows better than to touch, and she can feel the heat close to her fingers, though, but she keeps a safe enough distance. She curls her eager hands, rubbing her thumb and index fingers together as if to replicate the warmth when it does fade.
Finally, her eyes settle on the dragon again, bowing her head. ] A pleasure to meet you.
[ He watches her carefully, taking note of what she's doing. A greeting? He can do that. Mimicking her movements, he keeps his eyes on her, but ducks his head a little. An odd human thing, he supposes, but easy enough. ]
[This definitely isn't like anywhere Kai's been before. Okay, so he's only ever been home with his mom in the city, and sometimes dad takes him to the Islands to visit, but this is way better than either of them. What did uncle Sora call these people, Vikings? If being a Viking meant getting to swing a sword around all the time, Kai wanted to be one for sure. He wanted to be a Keyblade Master like his dad and uncle too, but maybe he could be both!
Dad had said they weren't going to be here long, so Kai was to stay put, right where he was by one of the funny looking houses. Kai had nodded and smiled and dropped down onto the dirt to wait, exactly like he was told...until both men were out of sight. Then he'd jumped right up and gone exploring, like any seven year old.]
[ Today's an off day. The morning flight is over, and there's no training while the riders do their own thing in their buildings. Toothless is wandering the town in boredom, looking for something interesting to occupy his time. ]
[The more he looks around, the more disappointed Kai gets. He thought it was going to be fun here, but it's just a bunch of grown-ups doing grown up things and-
Wait a minute. Was that a-
Kai freezes, staring at the...dragon not too far away. A real live dragon, just like in the stories his mom tells him! Not even pausing to consider that it might be dangerous, Kai dashes over, intent on just tackling it.]
[ Toothless is completely unaware of the child until it tackles him, making him stumble. Pausing, he looks down and blinks in confusion when he sees the kid hanging onto him, and stares. Aren't most people in Berk used to him and the other dragons by now? ]
[Most people in Berk, sure, but the little silver-haired kid isn't from here. Not even close. So sorry there Toothless, he'll just be hanging onto you for several seconds before he finds the willpower to pull himself away...at least a few feet.]
Wow. You're a real, honest to goodness dragon.
[This is officially the best day in his short life. Kai holds out a hand for him to sniff, as if he suddenly remembered something close to manners.]
I'm Kai, what's your name? Can you talk?
[Most of the dragons in the stories could totally talk.]
[ Upon closer examination, it's clear that this one doesn't belong in Berk. He can't be from another Viking town, or the outlaws, either; he looks nothing like them.
Toothless isn't used to kids, unless you count Hiccup. The rider is a lot older than this one, though, and that makes a difference. And unfortunately, Toothless is not a dragon from Kai's stories, so talking isn't an option. Instead, he tries to tries to smile, without teeth, and hopefully Kai will get his name from that. ]
